When my husband and I were looking for somewhere to go to celebrate our 28th anniversary, I immediately thought of Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. A lot of my fellow travel advisors have stayed here and all of them were overwhelmingly positive about the resort and endorsed it as the perfect place for a romantic getaway. After our four day stay here, I completely understand their enthusiasm! The service at this hotel is outstanding, the scope of activities seems endless, and the lodging options are beautiful and diverse.
The quality of service at this resort is 5 star all around. While most hotels are suffering from service quality problems during the pandemic, the Montage Palmetto Bluff stands out as an exception. The staff just could not do enough for us and did everything with a big smile. It was clear that each staff member is well trained and feels invested in providing the very best experience to its visitors.
Montage Palmetto Bluff is located on a 20,000 acre community near the town of Bluffton which is about 30 minutes from Savannah and 30 minutes from Hilton Head. The resort is bordered on one side by the May River on which you can go fishing or use a SUP, boat, or kayak to explore. And don’t be surprised when you see a large pod of dolphins swimming around you as well as other sea life as the river is actually part of the intercoastal waterway and is salt water.
If hanging out on the water isn’t your thing, Palmetto Bluff has thoughtfully laid out miles and miles of bike paths. Every room at the resort receives two complimentary bikes so that you can set out and explore the community on two wheels. We literally rode our bikes everywhere! And if you prefer an electric bike, these too are available for rental.
The resort has so many activities for those staying on property. There is a Jack Nicklaus 18 hole golf course, 8 har-tru tennis courts, and six pickle ball courts as well as a basketball court and bocce courts. In addition, Palmetto Bluff has a shooting club which is appropriate for first time to advance shooters. There is also a bowling alley/game room, equestrian facility, spa, fitness center, exercise classes, and three pools to keep you busy! The vast range of activities is wonderful.
The lodging options at Montage Palmetto Bluff are wide ranging. The entry level option is a room in Montage Palmetto Bluff’s beautiful inn. The next step up are its Lagoon Guest Houses which are perfect for those looking to socially isolate as they are spaced out throughout the resort and are entered from the outside. Montage also has one and two bedroom cottages as well as its residences which range in size from two to five bedrooms. We did a tour of the residence that Justin Bieber stayed in when he got married at the resort and it is GORGEOUS! Finally, through the resort, you can rent homes located on the property. These homes have two to five bedrooms and are perfect for a family vacation or a bunch of friends getting away together.
There are several restaurants on property and the food was quite good. We tried three of the restaurants: the Canoe Club, the Octagon, and Buffalo’s. The Canoe Club calls itself a river to table restaurant with its focus on seafood. From your table in the Canoe Club, you will have a view of either the May River or the lagoon. The Octagon has more of a residential feel to it and serves a range of seafood and meat. And Buffalo’s, a Southern Italian restaurant, is located by one of the chapels in the center of Wilson Village.
Montage Palmetto Bluff is a Virtuoso property. Consequently, I can obtain the following amenities for you when you stay there:
